Historical-cultural infos and curiosities: Viticulture and wine production, in this territory, develop with the Greeks and Picenes, and continue with the foundation of the Roman Empire. A famous anecdote relates that Hannibal's troops marching towards Rome allowed themselves a break in this territory, having huge banquets and massages with red wine. Serving suggestions: Grilled and roasted red meats, pork, salami and cheese. Production area: Some areas of the provinces of Ascoli Piceno, Ancona and Macerata. Grape varieties allowed for its production: Montepulciano (from 35 to 85%) and Sangiovese (from 15 to 50%). Grapes from red berry grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Marche region, alone or in combinaion, can contribute to the production for a maximum of 15%.
