What are the wines most purchased by Italians in supermarkets and discount stores in the past year? The overall data for wine is -3.3% in volume compared to the previous year (2.5% in value). Bottled wines with denomination of origin are better, decreasing by 2.8%, while bubbles also decrease, to -1.1%. In more detail: rosés sold better than whites, whites better than reds, still wines better than sparkling wines. The average price of bottled designation of origin wine (Doc, Docg, Igt) is 5.4 euros per litre, with an average increase of 6.3% on the previous year. “The strategies for a recovery will depend on the choice of Wineries and Distribution whether to preserve margins or recover volumes – observes Virgilio Romano, Business Insight Director of Circana – In the first case there is the risk of a less than brilliant end to the year; in the second, greater promotionality could favor a recovery in volumes". “The 20th edition of the round table – underlined Maurizio Danese, CEO of Veronafiere – serves to take stock of the market dynamics of a fundamental sales channel for Italian companies. From Sagrantino di Montefalco, up to Torgiano and Orvietano, the Umbrian vineyards extend across unique landscapes, among hills, valleys and medieval villages. Among the wineries associated with Movimento Turismo del Vino dell'Umbria , which works every day to promote wine culture and visits to places of production, here are five top wine destinations for which it is still possible to book. On the occasion of Easter Arnaldo Caprai will open the doors of his cellar. After a glass of Grechetto grecante served in the Monte della Torre square, the guided tour of the cellar will begin to discover the winemaking processes, subsequently in the rooms of the Monte della Torre Enoteca it will be possible to taste the most representative labels combined with the typical products of the Easter tradition. Arnaldo Caprai, symbol of Sagrantino di Montefalco, is synonymous with Italian excellence, capable of creating wines out of the ordinary in terms of depth, elegance and longevity: not only reds, but also whites. The credit for this adventure that began at the end of the Seventies goes to Marco Caprai, Arnaldo's son. In fact, it was he, more than anyone else, who believed in the richness of Sagrantino, reinterpreting it in a modern key, through the most innovative production and business management methods. Immersed in the valley of the Church of Carmine , the winery of the same name is the place of choice for Spoleto Trebbiano: the proposal is for a lunch at Easter and Easter Monday. In the surrounding area it is possible to visit Perugia, or a little further away Gubbio and Montone, a small village on the hill. Hidden among the green and lush Umbrian hills, in a breathtaking setting, the Montegiove Castle dates back to the 13th century and since 1780 has belonged to the Marquises Misciattelli. Today, it is at the center of the estate of the same name which extends for 1200 hectares in the splendid Umbrian countryside and includes a busy agricultural company and an exclusive agritourism. For Easter Monday, April 1st at 11 am, a visit and tasting is scheduled: a pleasant walk during which it is possible to visit a part of the medieval castle and the cellar dating back to 1500 located in the basement and listen to the fascinating events that have characterized the history of the castle during its glorious past. The visit will end with the tasting of three wines and extra virgin olive oil with a platter of local cheeses and pork butchery. Assisi, a jewel set among the green valleys, is preparing to dress up to welcome visitors from everywhere. The Saio Winery , a few steps from the Basilica of San Francesco, offers an authentic and engaging food and wine experience. Wine tourists can choose between a walk through the panoramic vineyards and discover Umbria's native vines, as well as savor fresh, fruity white wines and full-bodied, rich red wines during tastings led directly by the producer. Twenty hectares of vineyards and olive groves 800 m from the Basilica of San Francesco, recognized as a UNESCO heritage site: it is here that the Mencarelli family has been producing its wines and extra virgin olive oil since 2005, small productions characterized by craftsmanship and respect of nature. In Amelia, in Umbria, in a suggestive hilly area dominated by the ancient manor house and the cellar complex, the Zanchi family has been producing exclusive wines with a strong territorial identity for fifty years. 'Lambrusco a Palazzo' is renewed: two days of tastings and guided tastings among newly renovated arches and cloisters, to rediscover the famous sparkling red wine.

A wine which, in this ninth edition, will be represented by over 50 wineries and which will be present in 150 different shades. On the occasion of the ninth edition, the event is renewed this year by offering the first Enological Selection of Lambrusco wines, on 11 and 12 May . During the event it will be possible to taste sparkling wines (DOC and IGT) and DOC sparkling wines (Classic Method or Charmat) produced from the Lambrusco grape. The awards ceremony for the wine selection will take place on Sunday. The event, organized by ONAV Mantova and La Strada dei Vini e Sapori Mantovani, with the patronage and collaboration of the Municipality of San Benedetto Po , will host a large tasting stand which will be joined, starting from 4.00 pm on the day of on Saturday, the masterclass 'The Classical Method' curated by ONAV in the Chapter Room of the monastic complex, while on Sunday , the masterclass will focus on 'The native vines of the Via Emilia' , starting from Piacenza, passing through Bologna up to Romagna, curated of the Emilian Women of Wine . Wine consumers, especially in the United States, continue to associate wine not only with physical health, but more importantly with overall well-being. The results of a recent survey show that people see wine not only as a gustatory pleasure, but also as a way to relax and enjoy life. Of course, as you rightly point out, it is important to consume alcohol with moderation and awareness. However, I believe that completely demonizing wine could deprive people of an important cultural and social experience, as well as some mental wellbeing benefits. This is why in view of Easter 2024 today many entrepreneurs have "returned to the stove", but the not even remote danger is that at this rate one business in three will be forced to close.>> This is what emerges from the research of the "Evolution Forum" Observatory Business School on SMEs", conceived by the trainer Gianluca Spadoni on a panel of over 1200 micro and small entrepreneurs (i.e. with a turnover of up to 1 million euros, and less than 5 employees) and created close to the Easter holiday, the first real holiday for Italian families in 2024. According to the research of the "Evolution Forum Business School on SMEs" Observatory, for Easter 2024, companies are especially looking for highly specialized figures for all those shops that would like to remain open for the Easter long weekend also on Saturday and Sunday, such as: fishmonger (41%), butcher shop workers (40%); gastronomy workers (38%); delicatessen (34%), bartenders (50%), bakers (28%), pastry chefs (26%), fresh food counter operators (22%). A shortage of staff which today seriously jeopardizes the survival of one business in three. It is no coincidence that, according to data from Confcommercio research, 111,000 retail shops and street vendors have closed in Italy in the last 12 months, 8,000 of which in 2023 alone. Among the most affected sectors is the food sector with -12% of stores opened in the last year. And one of the main causes would be the lack of staff. In the big cities then, during the Easter period, all the shops linked to luxury tourism would also like to remain open, as they are desperately looking for: personal assistants (66%), i.e. very high profile sales assistants for luxury shops of the most famous brands, with knowledge of foreign languages such as English, Chinese, French but also Russian (despite the embargo). In tourist resorts, especially by the sea, Easter will be the first real long weekend of 2024, the "dress rehearsal" of the summer holidays. In this context, practically all hoteliers are desperately looking for hotel staff: from the chef de rang sought by 33% of hotels (these are people who have gained experience abroad, with knowledge of the English language) to the sous chefs ( according to 29% of restaurateurs), from waiters (47%) to cloakroom attendants (40%), from dishwashers (22%) to concierge/doorman (21%). Finally, according to the "Evolution Forum Business School on SMEs" Observatory in the galaxy of all logistics services connected to the tourism sector during the Easter period, Italian SMEs in the sector are exhausted because they are chronically understaffed, especially on holidays.
