ALÌE arrives at the 2023 harvest, the Rosé from Marchesi Frescobaldi celebrates its first 10 harvests

With the 2023 vintage , Alìe reaches its tenth harvest. The first vintage released on the market was 2014. For the occasion, Marchesi Frescobaldi celebrates its rosé, dedicating to it a poetic passage inspired by epic poems: the Alìade .

We are talking about the rosé symbol of Tenuta Ammiraglia , in Maremma, - a blend of the international Syrah grape and the native Vermentino .

'When we arrived at Tenuta Ammiraglia we listened to the territory and we immediately realized that in this more modern and Mediterranean Tuscany, in the heart of the Maremma, we found ourselves in an area with great potential for the production of high quality wines and we had to respect what the natural beauties were whispering to us" - says Lamberto Frescobaldi - President of Marchesi Frescobaldi , who adds - "Here the vineyards paint suggestive geometries on the hills until they touch the nearby Tyrrhenian coast. The quantity of sun and light reaches very high levels, integrating with the sea breezes and creating particularly favorable conditions for the creation of structured and also very fragrant wines. Today, looking with pride at the choice made to produce two rosé wines here, the Cru Aurea Gran Rosé and Alìe, of which we are celebrating the first Ten Harvests, we realize that we have achieved, at the same time, a goal, but also that we have within us a new incentive to continue on the path undertaken and pursue our mission of Cultivating Toscana Diversity".

Alìe's is, therefore, the story of how listening to the vocation of the territory - together with innovation and savoir-faire in the vineyard and in the cellar - leads to the achievement of ambitious objectives.

And it is in the proximity to the sea , which is just 15 kilometers away, the secret of Alìe: its distinctive personality and its pale pink colour, which remains stable over time . The sea influences the climate and the red Syrah grapes can - at Tenuta Ammiraglia - ripen gradually. This facilitates perfect color extraction. Vermentino, on the other hand, stabilizes the anthocyanins of Syrah and, therefore, allows the color to remain stable over time.

For its tenth anniversary, Marchesi Frescobaldi celebrates its rosé, and the Nymph that inspired its name, and dedicates to it a poetic passage inspired by the epic poems that it calls Alìade:

'NYMPH OF THE SEA, GENTLE SOUL , ALÌE HAD TO GUARD HIS ISLAND. AND WOES, HOW HE CARED FOR HIS SEA . WHEN THE SAILORS SKID THE COASTS, SHE WATCHED THEM SAIL. THEN, CHARMING AS HE WAS , HE ACCOMPANIED THEM FOR A SECTION, KEPT THEM COMPANY, GIVEN THEM A LAUGHTER. AT THE END OF THE JOURNEY HE OFFERED A SUBLIME ELIXIR . AND WHILE THEY GOT LOST IN THE PINK , SHE RETURNED TO HER ISLAND .

ALÌE 2023

Alìe 2023 is characterized by a distinctive pale pink color . The bouquet is complex, it presents sensations that recall citrus notes , nectarine peach, floral notes of peony and rose. It continues with notes of aromatic herbs, such as thyme, sage and rosemary . The iodine sensation is nice. The taste-olfactory correspondence is notable. On the palate you can perceive a beautiful freshness and notable flavor .

Once harvested, the grapes were transported to the cellar in a short time in order to preserve the integrity of the bunches.

One of the salient moments of Alìe production is represented by the pressing phase . The bunches, whole and in the absence of oxygen, were loaded into the press. The pressures applied during this phase were extremely soft and delicate ; this process together with the careful selection of the musts and subsequent decantation of these, for no less than 12 hours, has allowed the distinctive characteristics of this rosé to be enhanced.

The fermentations took place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of less than 19° C.

After maturation for a few months on fine lees, it also spent a period in the bottle before being released on the market.

The 2023 vintage was characterized by a mild winter full of rainfall, concentrated mostly in the months of December and January. The rains of March and April allowed the plants to develop a vigorous and strong leaf wall, ensuring excellent vegetative development; the summer period, thanks to the increase in temperatures and the quantity of water accumulated during the spring period, led to good development of the bunches. Summer temperatures and temperature variations between day and night have allowed for a large accumulation of aromatic substances . The harvest period, characterized mainly by sunny days, made it possible to harvest grapes with an optimal degree of ripeness. All this has translated into very structured wines with great aromatic expression.
