31st Mondial des Vins Extrêmes: 283 “heroic” wines awarded

The jury met on 28 and 29 September in Sarre (Aosta). The medals will be awarded on 1 December in Rome, at Palazzo Rospigliosi

The 31st edition of the Mondial des Vins Extrêmes concluded with the awarding of 283 medals to the best wines resulting from extreme viticulture. The tasting commissions, each made up of three wine technicians or oenologists and two expert tasters and who met in Sarre (Aosta) last 28 and 29 September, awarded 45 Grand Gold Medals and 238 Gold Medals during the tastings of the 863 wines entered into the competition from 319 companies from 26 countries. Among the new features for 2023 is the presence of Japan , awarded with five references. Furthermore, 19 Special Awards were also awarded and the prestigious VINOFED recognition, established by the Federation of the most important international wine competitions of which the Mondial des Vins Extrêmes is also part. “The 2023 edition saw the participation of winemakers from 26 countries, an extraordinary record that attests to the widespread diffusion of heroic viticulture in the world – declares Stefano Cel i, President of CERVIM – Center for Research, Studies, Safeguarding, Coordination and Valorization for Mountain Viticulture –. Like Mondial des Vins Extrêmes , which this year also opened to the lands of the Rising Sun, we are proud to constitute an increasingly important stage for these labels and their producers who with dedication challenge extreme climatic conditions and terrains year after year impervious to create wines of unique quality”. At the same time, the third edition of the Extreme Spirits International Contest took place, which awarded 4 Grand Gold Medals and 36 Gold Medals selected from the 84 competing spirits from Peru, Italy, France and Spain. This is an international competition dedicated to distillates from pomace, lees and wine which also aims to enhance the respective production areas. Starting from this edition, aromatized wines whose base wine is produced with grapes always grown in areas characterized by heroic viticulture have also been able to participate. The awards ceremony for both competitions will be held at Palazzo Rospigliosi in Rome on 1 December .
